Skaneateles Suites, Skaneateles New York

Wanting to have some control over the data on the site is a common request from clients. Many want to be able to quickly make a change to rates, add a new amenity or simply edit a photo. We have created such a site for a client in Skaneateles New York.
Curt has been a client for some time and was experimenting with different blogging platforms such as as Blogger and WordPress.com. As good as they are, they were not getting great page ranking and he could not incorporate the blog into his current site, nor make changes to the design so it would be similar in appearance. He decided to go ahead and have some site design changes, included a blog and create a way for him to have some control over adding new property pages for new units.
So we had two main mandates:
1. Create a content management database where he could access the site to add and remove properties, promote specials and make changes to property information.
2. Create a Community Blog that gives out information about the Skaneateles area, such as events, restaurants, and things to do and see.
With very distinctive types of units for rent, his current site was a little confusing as to what you were looking at in regards to lodging. So we created style sheets that would give us a different sidebar color for each of the different types of units. Now when you are on the Skaneateles Hotel pages you will see a blue sidebar throughout and while visiting the Skaneateles Suites you see a green sidebar. This helped tie the units together but give them some distinction as to the different types.
Another change we made was in adding more photos. We added a small Flash show to the Skaneateles Suites home page to showcase the diversity of the units. On the Skaneateles Blog pages we created a link to his Flickr Gallery that he was using to promote his images so now his Flickr photos show up on his blog pages. The link is dynamic, so as he adds photos to his Flicker account they will show in rotation on his blog.
We created templates so that he can easily add photos to his property pages as they come available. An example can be seen on the Robinson Crusoe pages. Curt added the photos to his photo album, greatly enhancing the guest experience on the site. As we know from the cliché “A photo is a thousand words.” we feel that these extra images will really help site visitors make the decision to stay with Skaneateles Suites when in the Finger Lakes area. He can now very easily add more photos to his other units.
We have shown Curt some basic optimization techniques that are available in the program so he can now play an active role in some of his site promotion. He has an employee help him with the updates freeing up his time, and this leaves more $’s in his budget at Blizzard to actively promote his site, as it is not being used in small design changes.
While still in the very early stages of getting going, Curt is well on his way. He is doing a great job and with only 5% of businesses in the blogging arena we are confident that as an early adaptor of blogging he will be rewarded. Online, we find that longevity is rewarded and as more and more businesses see their competitors blogging and start to blog themselves we only would encourage you to look into adding a blog to your own site.

• It allows you to score your own ad copy against

You just copy/paste a headline, sentence, order
link, Adwords ad, resource box or any other copy
that is meant to sell into the edit box in Glyphius…
